‘All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players.’ With a degree in English literature from Truman State University, USA, Glenn Jacobs, or Kane, which is what he’s better known as in the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) circuit, should know all about the theatrical aspects of the professional wrestling television show.
‘It was a natural shift for me (from studying English literature to working in WWE) because what we try to do in WWE, to some extent, is like Shakespearean theatre,’ Jacobs said, looking unrecognisable outside his on-stage mask and make-up that makes him look straight out of a horror film. Jacobs, with WWE diva Eve Torres is touring India as part of a WWE-Ten Sports contest for 10 lucky fans to meet the WWE superstars.
The seven-foot, slightly balding 45-year-old giant, who has been to India several times before, had met Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar on his last visit in 2009. ‘I have a lot of respect for Akshay and all the Bollywood actors,’ Jacobs said in an interview on Thursday.

‘I think they are some of the most versatile performers in the world. It is unbelievable for me that Akshay does his own stunts. I saw the stunt where he jumped out of an airplane and it was incredible,’ Jacobs added.
The 28-year-old Torres, who is on her first visit to India, can’t contain her excitement. ‘Today is my first day in India and I can’t wait to explore this beautiful country,’ Torres, the industrial and systems engineering graduate who plays John Cena’s rather shrill girlfriend on screen, said.
The itinerary of the visitors takes them only to Delhi and Bangalore, so Torres said she would love to come back to the country to visit Mumbai. ‘I’m sad that we are so close to Taj Mahal but we won’t be able to go there because of lack of time,’ she added with a tinge of regret.
The two stars are grateful to their loyal fanbase, which they believe has made the franchise a worldwide hit. ‘It’s gratifying to see people come up to me and thank me for entertaining them.
They are the reason why we do what we do,’ Jacobs said. Jacobs, who weighs 147 kilos, works out five days a week while Eve tries to change her workout regime constantly. She has even taken Bollywood cardio classes.
