Recap:After tweeting that Randy and Sheamus will go one on one with each other on Smackdown, we pretty much thought no Eve tonight on RAW. We got a surprise during the John Cena and Johnny segment that took place at the end of the night. Eve came down to the ring, tapped John on the shoulder until he decided to see what she wanted. Turns out she had some papers from the board of directors about his and Cena’s match taking place at the PPV Sunday. Eve wasn’t look happy and shortly left the ring after.

As anyone paying attention to WWE’s flagship show will know, on last’s night’s Raw, new United States Champion Zack Ryder teamed up with WWE Diva Eve Torres to take on Tyson Kidd and Natalya in an intergender tag match.

The bout itself was short and rather paint-by-the-numbers (Ryder and Eve won), but afterwards there seemed to be some suggestion of a romance/flirtation between the two victors, with the two laughing together and the champion even letting the bubbly diva hold his U.S belt.

Interestingly, the two have also had some skits on WWE.com and Ryder’s show Z! True Long Island Story, with the former NBA dancer gently knocking back the geeky Internet sensation’s request for a date.

So what this angle, just a time-filler or a nod to fans of Z! True Long Island Story? Apparently not. Indeed, recent reports indicate this is going to be a new mid card angle on the flagship show, as LordsofPain note: “The storyline between Eve Torres and WWE United States Champion Zack Ryder is expected to continue for a few weeks at least.”

While this is surely a step up for the underused Eve, a cheesy mid-card romance angle could be seen as a demotion for cult sensation Ryder, the man was main eventing Raw last week and has been working regularly with John Cena after all.

Indeed, on this week’s free edition of Wrestling Observer Live Dave Meltzer suggested that Ryder’s new spot was down the disastrous rating of last week’s main event, which saw CM Punk, Ryder and Daniel Bryan take on Dolph Ziggler, The Miz and Alberto Del Rio. Meltzer’s remarks come at roughly the 17 minute mark in case anyone interested in listening:

This is actually stemming from last week’s rating, and the way they worked this week’s show..at the 10 O’clock and the 11 O’ clock (quarters) it was John Cena (in that position). Daniel Bryan was on the show, sure, but if you blinked you missed him. And Zack Ryder basically went from being in the main event to being in this new angle where he has got the hots for Eve Torres, which makes him into a pre-lim guy. You know even Punk didn’t get the main event spot. And in Chicago! You can see, definitely, the reaction to that rating.

Meltzer later noted: “That main event rating was not just something they ignored. You can see the reaction…everyone was hurt by that rating.” He also speculated that Raw’s obnoxious commentator, Michael Cole, was more calmed down this week due to a feeling backstage he was hindering the product rather than helping it (Cole regularly disparages the faces, particularly Ryder and Bryan, calling them geeks and losers).”
